Handwashing

World Health Organisation recommends regularly cleaning your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitiser or washing them with soap and water. You should also be washing your hands for at least 20 seconds for the practice to be effective. Use alcohol-based hand rub as often as possible.

Effective Home Sanitising

For effective home sanitising we recommend to regularly sanitise with a product proven to kill the N1H1 influenza virus. 2 Products that do this very well are:

Glen 20

Dettol Antibac spray

Both these products have a short residual life which means that they will keep sanitizing for a short period after the product has been applied. Most other sanitizers stop working as soon as they evaporate.

6 Months Protection For Your Carpet & Upholstery

Electrodry offers our clients a product called E-Bac that we apply to carpet and upholstery. E-Bac was developed by Healthguard and is a residually active sanitiser that treats germs and bacteria for up to 6 months after application.

How does it work?

E-Bac will bond to the fibres of your carpet or upholstery after cleaning. It contains ingredients that are clinically proven to inhibit the growth of germs, mould and bacteria for up to 6 months. This includes the H1N1 influenza virus. In high traffic areas, the E-Bac may be worn away from the fibres in less than 6 months however tests have shown that a residual life of at least 3 months should be expected. E-Bac is also designed to remove odours and comes in pleasant lavender, apple or vanilla fragrance.

6 Months Protection For Your Mattress

Electrodry has worked with Heathguard to develop the Healthy Mattress Solution which is applied as part of your healthy mattress clean. The Healthy Mattress Solution was derived from Healthguard’s dust-mite treatment solutions and effectively inhibits the growth of germs, dust-mites and mould in the mattress for 6 months. This includes the H1N1 influenza virus.

What other Precautions Should You Take

Respiratory Precautions

Ensure you cough or sneeze into your arm or a tissue. Keep at least one metre distance from someone coughing or sneezing to avoid particles. Avoid touching your face, eyes or mouth to reduce spreading germs that may be on your hands.

Practise Common Sense

Feeling a little under the weather? Keep your germs away from the workplace and get some much-needed rest. Don’t share food with colleagues in the workplace and ensure that communal cutlery and crockery used is washed afterwards with hot, soapy water or placed promptly in the dishwasher. Pay special attention to the more vulnerable people in your life – the elderly and those with existing health conditions are more likely to experience more serious symptoms if the disease is contracted. As always, contact your healthcare provider if you are experiencing symptoms.

Is There a Natural Alternative that will Kill viruses?

Natural home cleaning ingredients such as lemon and vinegar are great for general cleaning and do contain disinfecting properties. These products, and other solutions such as Tea Tree Oil are effective on many types of germs and bacteria but fall down when treating viruses. At this stage we are not aware of any easy to access, all natural, virucide products. You would be forgiven for starting to get a little nervous about the Coronavirus illness. And while it has not been classed as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the media likely has you convinced that the end of the world is nigh. The truth is less sensational but it is definitely a good idea to educate yourself about what you can do at home to protect you and your family.
